Booking a Cruise for the First Time
Until not very long ago, we used to think that Royal cruises and any other kind of cruise was meant for the rich guys. We never thought that we can also enjoy those luxury ships, those formal dinners, those leisure activities we’ve often seen on TV as being habitual to millionaires. Nowadays, just try to book a cruise vacation and you’ll be amazed to see that there are many of them perfectly affordable for the average Joe like you and me. I have many friends who have decided to take a Royal cruise as their main vacation of two or three weeks. There are also shorter cruises, for the busy people. The last cruise I’ve been in lasted only 4 days. It is true that it wasn’t on a ocean, but on the Nile river in Egypt, however, the ship had everything it needed to make a great vacation. We even had gym equipment on the upper deck, so we were able to do our fitness workouts under the nice January sun and with the wind blowing in our hair. Too bad it was a bit chilly to use the upper deck swimming pool. But the rest was just fantastic, the cabins were big enough to accommodate twin beds, a coffee place with a small table, a couch and an armchair, plus a locker for the luggage. Although the bathroom was small, it included a bathtub, so we were really pleased with the degree of comfort we found on that ship.

How To Prepare For A Royal Cruise
Royal Caribbean cruises are very convenient, in the way that you don’t need too much of a preparation in order to get on the ship and have a cool cruise vacation, with or without your family. Nevertheless, regardless the high degree of comfort such cruises offer to their passengers, there are a few things you must pack, because you are going to need them badly during your vacation aboard:
- Sunscreen: you’ll spend a lot of time in the sun, laying on the deck, by the pool, enjoying drinks from the pool bar, so you can get sun burns if you are not careful. Always take two sun protection lotions: one with a high protection factor for the first couple of days and one with less protection for the rest of the cruise.
- Bathing suit: there are countless occasions for a nice bath in the ocean when going on a Royal cruise. You don’t want to be unprepared, do you? Besides, there are a lot of swimming pools on the ship’s decks, so you can refresh yourself even if you don’t know how to swim.
- Photo camera: do you need further explanation on why a camera is a must have in a Royal cruise vacation?
Regarding the outfits you need to pack, most of them have to be casual, as you are going to spend a lot of time in relaxation, in water, or by the pool. However, if you stay longer than 3 nights on your Royal cruise, you’d better have some smart casual and formal outfits with you, for the dinner cocktails which you are going to attend. You will know when you book your cruise how many smart casual and formal dinners you’ll have included in your pack, so you’ll know what to take with you.
What to leave home when going on a Royal cruise
Royal cruises have a few rules which they are very keen in keeping, for the safety of their guests. For instance, fireworks are not allowed. Other forbidden items are electrical transformers, coffee makers, candles, irons, illegal drugs, flammable liquids. If you are not sure about something you’d like to take with you, please ask the Royal cruise staff before the trip, so you make sure you are OK.
